Thank you to all who participated Saturday!!!
Taken from flier by ATA Martial Arts. I am going to see a specialist back East again regarding a new procedure. As you know, this has been a long and hard battle and I am so amazed at the sacrifice of Miss Schafer, the owner of the martial arts business who has so generously created a night to make this trip happen. I am overwhelmed. Those of you who know me, know I struggle with receiving. This is certainly a provision, and a life lesson. I can't always be the giver? What? I am humbled. No matter how far away you are, you can participate if you feel led. Call or email me for details. We could really use some items for the silent auction, or any donations.
Thank you to all who participated Saturday!!!

Imagine living with an extremely rare disease where you are constantly struggling with severe pain, your skin feels like its burning and a simple touch can feel like torture. For Kaitlyn this is no dream she has been battling Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy for the past 5 and a half years. This syndrome was brought on by an ankle sprain in 2004 only 8 weeks after she got married. In fact Kaitlyn is in the 7% of individuals who get this disease systematically, meaning it did not heal permanently during the 1st year like the other 93% of people do. Throughout all her pain and suffering she has managed to stay extremely positive and hopeful, serving as an inspiration to her family, friends and community.
Some facts about
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy
• R.S.D. is the most painful chronic pain disease that exists, ranking 42 out of 50 on the McGill pain index. Causalgia or RSD pain is above childbirth which is rated at a mere 30.
• R.S.D. is a malfunction of part of the nervous system. Nerves misfire, sending constant pain signals to the brain.
• It develops in response to an event the body regards as traumatic, such as an accident or a medical procedure. This syndrome may follow 5% of all nerve injuries.
• Symptoms include persistent moderate-to-severe pain, swelling, abnormal skin color changes, skin temperature, sweating, limited range of movement, movement disorders.
• R.S.D. is two to three times more frequent in females than males.
• The mean age at diagnosis is 42 years. However, we are seeing more injuries among young girls, and children as young as 3 years old can get R.S.D.
• Early and accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment are key to recovery, yet many health care professionals and consumers are unaware of its signs and symptoms.
